Decluttering Tips: Bedroom

50 Inspirational Decluttering Quotes » LADY DECLUTTERED

Like most people, I tend to start each new year with goals and things I want to achieve in the next 12 months.
My main goal for 2020 was to overhaul my life and begin a more minimalist journey. Now I'm not talking about wearing all white and having nothing in my home, but more of a Minimalism of the Mind kind of deal.

After having a rough couple of years I decided I wanted to basically declutter my whole life, possessions, attitude and everything else.

So I started my journey in the bedroom, because for me, it's the place that houses most of my stuff and therefore most of my stress.

Here are my tips on how to start decluttering your bedroom.

  1. Do not try to do everything in a day.
  2. Create small sections to work through. (Pants. socks, papers, cables etc)
  3. Take regular breaks.
  4. It's not a competition. (You don't need to throw things away because other people say so)
  5. Listen to music or something that will keep your energy up and keep you motivated.
  6. Don't make piles, if it's to donate or sell bag it up, if it's to keep sort through it right away. (This is the quickest way to get overwhelmed!)
  7. Do it by YOURSELF. (having people help will just cause a distraction)
  8. Don't linger on things for too long, if you're hesitating on an item, throw it out.
  9. Have patience. (Rome wasn't built in a day)
  10. Create a check list so you can see your progress. (It's super rewarding too!)

For me, the closet is always the easiest place to start. I think people think they have to sort all their clothes at once, when the reality is you're going to be much more successful if you break it into catergories; socks, underwear, shorts etc.
